now blogging @ dear's hostel.... we brought the pc and some stuff back... sch's gonna start for dear dear soon... haiz.. the holidays are all over jux like that.. sob sob...

but my heart sort of melted when i saw some of their frightened and innocent faces.

haha. i feel evil.

but kids are kids. sometimes you need to use authority to get things back on track.

FINALLY

finally! the whole episode is over!

after a gruelling 5 week fight, everything has been resolved.

the final ambush which worked was still the conventional, tried and tested method.

the little one was terrified when captured, and i supposed, famished too, as it finally fell prey to the little piece of cuttlefish.

the cleaning up part is torturous, but i am glad to be able to clean up.

with mickey captured, i hope that there's no more minnie nor nemo in the days to come.

RACIAL HARMONY DAY 2006

Celebrated RHD in my school yesterday... realised that the younger kids love to play dress-up more than the older ones..

i bought my indian-styled inspired dress from Metro.. quite liked the effect...

all in all, a well spent day wif my kids.. we spent the day exploring greetings in different languages... german, french, japanese, tagalog (philippines), korean etc...

Taught this lesson on 'The Little Toothbrush' to my P1 this week.

decided to bring the lesson to life by getting the little ones to bring their toothbrushes, toothpastes and mugs to school for a real session on toothbrushing..

best thing was... i forgot mine!!!

managed to seek help from the sch dental clinic and got myself a set of travel toothbrush and toothpaste.. heng ah...

the whole session was very enjoyable.. as the kids got to exchange toothpastes and they could pick a friend to 'borrow' some toothpaste.. Many of them with flavours they had never tried before and found it v v interesting and tasty too! haha...

they had a GREAT time! and so did i!!!

TX's HOUSEWARMING PARTY

the sisters (and brothers) met @ TX's love nest last sunday for their house warming party.

nice place.. nice deco.. v cosy... dear liked their living room very much...

we had fun, proud owners of the house made us salad, and ordered in Canadian Pizza for us... sumptous!

after that, it was some chit chatting as we caught up wif one another.. life.. work.. travel plans.. next gathering.. haha...

very happy for TX and JQ.. it must feel great to see your house transformed from what it was to what it is now... we're so happy for you!!!

off for meeting now! my P1 kids jux had a class on teeth brushing... haha... will upload the pics tom when i am free...

WORRIED

my friend is sick.

and it hurts my heart to see her like that.

i wish to, and i want to accompany her thru this dark period of her life.

but, very soon, the skies will clear and the rainbow will emerge.

everything will be fine after she recovers.

for now, i'm praying hard,

for the little angels up there to watch over her,

and carry her to the land of safety and happiness.

That's what friends are for.

to my dear friend:
like wat i told u, you are not alone on this journey, and you will survive this ordeal. In Life, we do trip and fall sometimes, but we must nv look back at how badly we've fallen. Instead, look ahead and pick ourselves up from the fall and continue walking.

MOVIE SESSION - ZODIAC

my P1 kids had a movie treat in class last week!

BUT before they could enjoy the animation movie, they had to do some work.

Again, it was an impromptu lesson.

or 'teachable moments' -- as wat my P likes to call it.

Part I

came across this 12 zodiacs colouring worksheet inside the 'Hao Peng You' which my class subscribed to.

there was some time left from class, but not enough for me to start a new chapter, so i decided to get them to colour the 12 zodiacs...

Part II

den jux before the bell rang, i taught them how to memorise the sequence of the 12 zodiacs.

shu niu hu tu, long she ma yang, hou ji gou zhu (bear with the hypy... paiseh cox dear's pc cannot input Chinese)

before you knew it, about half the class could blabber non-stop.. and i issued them a challenge... those who could memorise and regurgitate the next day would get a sticker from me!

Part III

the next day, everyone was given a chance to stand in front of the class and read aloud the 12 zodiacs. an amazing 100% could do it! and i issued 27 stickers in all!

Part IV

ik wanted to use their drawing & writing exercise.. but it was still with me and unmarked, so i issued them blank paper and told them to draw and colour the zodiac which they liked the most. class actitvity.

at this moment, Vivian (one of my girls) came up to me and asked me this interesting question:

V: Weng Laoshi, shall i draw the rabbit with a long tail or a short tail?
Me: (puzzled) huh? rabbit got long tail one meh? no lah.. all rabbits have short tails... remeber Bugs Bunny?
V: no.... last time rabbits used to have long tails.. but the fox pulled it off during the race to become the Zodiac King.. so now its tail is short loh!
Me: isit? (*embarrassed cox i din noe this part abt the tail*) how did you know?
V: i watched it on the movie loh.. Zodiac..
Me: wow... ok... but since the rabbit has a short tail since then, why dont you draw it with a short tail?
V: ok.
Me: *stunned and relieved at the same time*

Part V

the next day, Vivian brought her VCD (i think she wanted to prove her pt about the rabbits having long tails before the fox pulled it off).. and i decided to show it to the class.

throughout the show, i kept finding chances to get them to memorise the 12 zodiacs in the correct sequence. whenever a new character appeared in the show, i would ask them if it belonged in the 12 zodiacs... by the end of the movie, everyone had no problems with the sequence.. even my phillipino boy, australian boy, malay boy and malay girl.. hahaha...

Part VI

i rtn them their drawing & writing book. homework was titled : The 12 Zodiacs. Each of them had to write 3 sentences about the show. Whether they like it or not, Who their favourite Character was and Why...

Everyone had a great time and they were so proud of their work that 100% handed it up the very next day! I DID NOT expect such a great success and so i took down the eager and jubiliant faces of my P1 darlings...

i can tell that they lurrrrved the show... and all the activities...

though i took abt 3 days to finish everything... i think itz worthwhile.

@ least i dare to hold my head high up and say that my P1s can recite the 12 zodiacs!! and i m so proud of them!
